Kalila got married
Kalila married her friend of many years, Dave Herring, on the 21st of May in Little Harbor Chapel, Portsmouth. It was just the right size wedding; it packed the little, very charming chapel. Since the wedding took place during the cold monsoon season we had this spring, we were glad to be close in the church; most of the women were wearing flimsy florals and we froze. I was worried the bride would get pneumonia. The pictures I took were not representative of the festivity, which was well-behaved (come on, the groom's party were mostly Protestant divinity students) but joyful.

The bride and her father.

The happy couple.

Ceremonial cake-consumption (there was no shoving). Dick appears to be saying "Bless you, my children."
I wish I had had the forethought to take a shot of the table set out with Persian wedding decorations: rosewater, a kind of sand-painting in groats? that read "Blessings" in Farsi, a sheaf of grain, sugar cones for blessing the bride and groom, a mirror for them to see themselves in such dignity, candied almonds, and other symbols of happiness (and fertility, but we are all much too polite to mention that).
The newlyweds headed off to Kennebunkport and we wish them well.
