I can cross-post this with my other blog!
Yesterday a bunch of people came over for hamburgers. Mark brought exotic cheeses, Dick brought a splendid bean salad, Mimi and Karen brought potato salad, and I provided burgers and strawberries and beer. Linda and Mimi and Karen did most of the work; they left the kitchen cleaner than it had been when they arrived. There were also Jen and Kalila and Mike. Sarah was staying out late swimming with beavers (really) and Ellie was in deep cover till some of the crowd thinnned out (when the mosquitoes thickened up). Despite the absence of housemates, I think this was the largest gathering since last October 23. It was pretty much the 51st week of our residence here, a year since we moved next week.
Today's cataloguers were Kalila, Mimi and Karen and Tom. The first three people were somehow subdued and sleepy, as was I. I have no idea how Jen was on site today, but she and I stayed up till maybe 10:30, pretty wild, making sure no red wine got a chance to get old. Curiously, I have no desire to drink anything tonight.
Lab. I'll be there three days next week. It could be worse. It was very hot this morning, but cooler in the afternoon than it was in the full sun of the parking lot outside. The last two days, I have been blessed wih very productive men and women (mostly women), and we are out of the 'all coal, slag, and broken glass, all the time' layers and getting a reasonable number of little tiny hornfels and rhyolite flakes. My excitement today was looking at what someone feared might be a chunk of glass and finding it was the broken end of a small crystal quartz scraper. Very pretty, and small again, like the other scrapers have been.

And Mimi asked me to teach her to spin, and to pick her up a spindle at the Elegant Ewe today. So many people to corrupt, so many ways; so little time.
(Note: I had hoped to post this with pictures, but the Windows:1898 at the lab and I had a tiff (not a TIF) and I will have to see if I go back there and download them on the way home or go straight home and start the new Harry Potter, Amazon, the Postal Service and God willing...)
